Prebiotics are starches that humans cannot digest. Prebiotics are types of dietary fiber that feed and nourish our friendly intestinal bacteria.
Prebiotics promote a strong immune barrier that helps keep out harmful substances, viruses and bacteria. This also reduces inflammation and may reduce the risk of cancer. Our western diet is limited in providing prebiotics. Probiotics are of limited benefit without prebiotics. Not all probiotic products contain prebiotics.
